Pies in the face for a good cause

Customers walking into Eat’n Park on Lysle Boulevard in McKeesport were surprised Friday to find Mayor Michael Cherepko, police Chief Adam Alfer and City Administrator Tom Maglicco getting hit in the face with cream pies.

But those throwing the pies weren’t doing so out of anger or spite.

Anyone who visited the restaurant Friday afternoon was offered the opportunity to pay $5 to throw a pie in the face of one of the three city officials. All proceeds from the “Pie in the Face Fundraiser” are being donated by the Eat’n Park Caring for Kids campaign to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

“Caring for Kids” is Eat’n Park’s annual five-week fundraising campaign that benefits children’s hospitals in various cities and states.

Jamie Bower, chairwoman for the McKeesport Eat’n Park branch’s Caring for Kids program, said the McKeesport branch has been participating in the campaign for at least 25 years and that several Eat’n Park restaurants in the area also participate.
