Donora explores options on seized pet sites

Donora borough council is looking into options related to the property where dozens of animals were confiscated recently.

The issue was raised Thursday during an agenda-setting session for the council’s November meeting.

The former church and rectory buildings at 320 Second St. in Donora were the scene of an animal rescue raid by police  and humane officers at the end of October, along with a third property in Monessen, all owned by the same person who now faces animal cruelty charges.

About 200 cats, dogs, chickens and a gerbil were confiscated. Conditions inside the buildings were described as filthy and horrible, and officers said the smell of feces and ammonia was overwhelming.
