“Costumes are for people pretending. I am Iron Man,” jokes Clinton Blazevich, patting the battery pack strapped to his chest.

Like his superhero counterpart, Blazevich, 43, is being kept alive by the battery that powers the pump that helps his heart circulate blood to the rest of his organs.

The Elizabeth Township resident is waiting to be placed on the transplant list for a new heart. That placement should take place Nov. 12, with the anticipation of surgery within two weeks of being listed.

“They’re predicting 10 to 14 days before they find me a heart because of my size, condition and blood type, which is A negative,” Blazevich said.

If all goes well, he hopes to be home recuperating by Christmas.
