When “Homecoming: Sgt. Hamilton’s Long Journey” premieres at Ringgold Middle School next week, a panel discussion will follow that will include an anthropologist from the U.S. Department of Defense.
David Solomon, the WQED executive producer who wrote, produced and directed the documentary, will lead the discussion.
Solomon said he is excited that the department is flying Carrie LeGarde in for the event.
LeGarde is an anthropologist with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, which handled the identification of Hamilton’s remains.
Vernon Hamilton was a 19-year-old Army Air gunner mechanic from Monongahela who was on a light bomber in World War II when his plane was shot down over Germany. The plane and remains of Hamilton and his fellow crew members were declared unrecoverable for decades.
