Zaier Harrison will be a marked player when California takes on Cornell in a WPIAL 1A first round playoff game tonight.
Well, he’d better be.
Harrison is the top player for Cornell (8-1), which tied for first place in the Big Seven Conference with Sto-Rox.
He is a dual-threat quarterback as he has thrown for 1,971 yards and 22 touchdowns and is also the Raiders’ leading rusher (590 yards) and scorer (14 TDs).
The 5-11, 180-pound senior has hit on 108 of 198 passes and is the eighth ranked passer in the WPIAL. He has eight interceptions.
The Raiders, behind Harrison’s leadership, have won six straight games after suffering their lone defeat to Sto-Rox, 28-25.
“He’s a pretty special player, a key player for us,” said Cornell coach Ed Dawson. “And more than just offense. He’s a four-year starter on both sides of the ball and he is our punter. He has grown into a great leader.
“We have a lot of skilled players, but he makes us who we are. He is the tip of the needle for us. He’s gotten some looks from some Division II and Division III schools.”
