After a year of negotiations, a finalized agreement has been reached for new full-time Monessen employees related to health care costs.
According to council members, new city employees will have to cover out-of-pocket costs for co-pays and some other health care costs. The city’s four new police officers already adopted this arrangement when they were hired.
Councilman Anthony Orzechowksi, who serves as acting mayor, said last December the cost of health care for full-time employees had “skyrocketed” and the city could no longer maintain those costs for all employees.
The $1.3 million retirement and pension plan price was estimated to increase each year, as the city was contractually obligated to pay the entirety of all health care costs for both current and retired non-uniformed city employees and their families for life.
