Students planning a self-sustaining small coffee shop in the Media Room at Belle Vernon Area High School are getting more help.

Directors of the Belle Vernon Area Charitable Fund have approved a $1,000 donation from their working capital account to fund the start of the “Perked Up Café.”

“I guess you could say what we call ‘seed money’ set aside for events is now ‘bean money’ for this worthy enterprise,” a fund spokesman said. “The coffee shop reflects the type of creative activities and needs that we support as a non-profit organization enhancing the BVA educational experience.”

Principal Dr. Michael Sable and assistant principal Heath Curran have been instrumental in working with students and the Perked Up Café in Charleroi to develop plans for the coffee shop, an experience that will involve design, marketing and business skills.
