Thomas A. Mordecki, 60, of Monongahela, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born April 9, 1959, in Vero Beach, Fla., the son of Anthony and Gail Cutright Mordecki, who survive and reside in New Eagle. Tom was a 1977 graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, and a master’s degree in business from Carnegie Mellon (GSIA). He worked for several local companies during his career. He was the recipient of the George Westinghouse Award of Excellence and secured patents with his work at Fisher Scientific. Tom was very proud of his education, but more importantly, he was supportive of everyone in his life. Tom will be fondly remembered for his wittiness and sense of humor. He is survived by his son, Thomas “TJ” (Alissa) Mordecki of Monroeville; daughter, Samantha Mordecki of Pleasant Hills; three grandchildren, Learra, Claira and Jayden; sister, Margaret (John) Morgan of Sutersville; two step-sisters, Linda (Mike) Iamurri of Ohio and Dina Wivagg of South Carolina; a step-brother, Tony Mordecki of South Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-sister, Teresa. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2019, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 West Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, with the Rev. William Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fryefuneralhome.com.
