Pasta Shoppe may be closed for good

The Pasta Shoppe in Monessen is temporarily closed because of sewage issues, and owner Bernie Fertall said it may struggle to reopen because of sizable repair costs.
Fertall believes the damages are a direct result of PennDOT’s repaving project on Donner Avenue. He told city council Thursday night that in the 25 years he’s been in business, he’s never experienced a sewage problem until August.
Fertall believes work crews punctured the pipe that leads into his store when they dug into the ground to insert mesh and gravel.
“Now we’re closed because we’re getting muddy water into the store and in my basement,” Fertall said. “I had 8 inches of water in my basement yesterday. I’m closed now and can’t even run my business anymore. That’s another business in Monessen that’s being lost.”
