Candace Lafferty Byers
Candace Lafferty Byers, 64, passed away on Oct. 13, 2019, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospital, after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Helen Bechick Lafferty and Jack Lafferty of Fayette City. Candace is survived by sisters, Cindy Lafferty of Barefoot Bay, Fla., and Jackie Stefanik of Farmington; a dear friend, Joyce Tiech of Belle Vernon, and Henry McLaughlin Robbins of West Newton. Candace was a graduate of Belle Vernon Area High School, Class of 1972. She was a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in speech language pathology in 1976. Candace went on to attain her master’s degree in 1978. She was a certified speech and language pathology teacher, employed for many years by Intermediate Unit I. Candace was an exemplary teacher and was loved by her students. She was a member of the Fayette County Historical Society. Candace was a fun-loving, compassionate, caring, generous individual. Her last wish was to share her organs with others. The Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) fulfilled this wish. Candace will be sadly missed by all who knew her. May she have a safe passage to the next life. Candace requested no public viewing. A memorial service to honor Candace will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 29, 2019, at the Chapel in the West Newton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of ELEY MCCRORY FUNERAL HOME, Fayette City.
