McKeesport Area administrators and school board members celebrated the career and leadership of a woman who has served the school district for 45 years, first as a teacher and then as a board director.
Mary Jane Keller has been a McKeesport Area school board director since 2012. For the past eight years, she has served as vice president of the board. Her current term comes to an end in December. Keller decided earlier this year not to run for re-election. Because there are no board meetings in November, Keller sat on the board room dais for the last time Wednesday.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Holtzman presented her with a bouquet of flowers and a plaque commemorating her service to the board.
“I want to take a moment to recognize Mary Jane Keller. This will be her last school board meeting,” Holtzman said. “She has helped really supporting the district initiatives, our students and our staff, but also supporting me as a new superintendent. I am grateful that I have had time to spend with Mrs. Keller. Her commitment and volunteerism to our district is unmatched really.”
“Thank you for all the help you have provided, and we appreciate you more than you know,” Holtzman said to Keller as he gave her a hug.
Keller said she is “proud” of her service to MASD.
