Thomas Jefferson advanced to the WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinals by defeating Montour, 2-1, in a first-round matchup Monday night.
After being eliminated in the first round last season, head coach Jason Vozar believes his team can make a run with the system in place.
“This is a big win for our program,” Vozar said. “I feel like our kids just implemented the system we put in place. I thought this would be a tight game and I said I thought we would be fine if we did what we needed to do and we did.”
Thomas Jefferson took the lead shortly before halftime as Dalaney Ranallo set up for a free kick at the 40-yard line with 35 seconds left before the break.
She booted the ball into the box, where Isabella Vozar contested it before Isabella Blosl controlled the rebound and found the bottom left corner of the net to get the Jaguars their first score.
