Eagles fall short of upset bid in loss to No. 4 Carlynton

It wasn’t the result Serra Catholic head coach Chad Bruns was seeking.
But the effort was something he surely could be proud of.
The No. 13 Eagles battled all afternoon and used stout defense and goaltending to keep within striking distance before falling short at the hands of fourth-seeded Carlynton, 1-0, in a WPIAL Class A first-round matchup at Belle Vernon Area’s James Weir Stadium Saturday.
Despite struggling to get things going offensively, Serra Catholic (9-7-2) held Carlynton (16-2) scoreless for 70-plus minutes until Carnel Kerr struck with 9:22 left in the game.
