Plans for the reconstruction of Route 906 approaching Monessen from the south were displayed Tuesday at City Hall.
The PennDOT open house was lightly attended, with fewer than 10 residents, businesses and elected officials reviewing the plans set out by the engineering team for the project. The reconstruction will encompass 2.5 miles of roadway, from Iron Street, which is just north of the I-70 interchange, to 12th Street in Monessen, where the last reconstruction of Route 906 ended a little more than two years ago.
“It’s one of the worst stretches of concrete in our district,” said Liberty Hill, the plan’s engineer for the project.
The concrete, four-lane section of the project will involve a full reconstruction, Hill said, with the removal of the concrete and replacement of the roadbed before the stretch is resurfaced with asphalt.
