Blood drive next project for pageant winner

A 7-year-old beauty queen from Belle Vernon is focused on giving back to her community and will exhibit her love of public service by co-sponsoring a blood drive.

Giovannah Seroka, along with Washington Township VFC firefighters, will host the drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Washington Township Fire Hall.

Known to her friends and family as “Gigi,” Seroka has participated in beauty pageants since she was 5. She’s taken home more than 30 crowns and titles and is the 2019-20 Junior Miss Mon River, 2019-20 Junior Miss Mon Valley and 2019-20 PA Natural Elite Young Miss.

Her grandmother, Laurie Colelli, said Seroka believes in giving back to her community and has remained active in fundraising and charity work.

Colelli said she identifies as Seroka’s “pageant overseer,” and more than anything, that means pushing her toward community-driven outreaches.

“I keep her grounded and say, ‘Just because you wear a crown doesn’t make you better than anybody else, but because you wear the crown, you have to be better than everybody else,’ and when I said that, she said back to me that she just loves helping people,” Colelli said. “And I just tell her to stay that way.”
