Belle Vernon: Access to recreation facilities may be limited

Belle Vernon may soon have an ordinance establishing restricted hours of operation for borough-owned recreational facilities, as a result of a “sad but common” issue — homelessness.
Mayor Gerald Jackson addressed the issue during Tuesday’s meeting.
“Some of you may know, but some of you may not know this concerning children in town,” he said. “But my dad and I have been feeding them for the last six weeks. He gives them pop and water and occasionally buys them hamburgers, but we need to reach out to other organizations.”
Jackson said the issue is sad, but not uncommon in Belle Vernon or other area communities where young people are going hungry and living without shelter.
