Jefferson Hills Fire and Rescue is now recognized as a certified volunteer fire company.
The certification, which was unanimously approved by borough council at Monday’s meeting, means tax funds can now go to the new organization.
A result of the consolidation of the borough’s 885 Area and Floreffe fire companies, Jefferson Hills Fire and Rescue will begin serving the area Nov. 1.
“There was a lot of effort by a lot of people to make this happen,” councilman Tracey Khalil said. “I want to commend all of those who will allow us to have a new organization.”
“The goal is to become better and more efficient,” council president Christopher King said. “This motion allows us to do that.”
