Belle Vernon Area’s Adeline Guess has been pushing and pushing for a goal this season. A gifted player with a big leg has taken a majority of the throw-ins and free kicks for the Leopards this season.
Tuesday, her patience paid off.
Guess scored the only goal of the game with just over 27 minutes to go to give the Leopards a 1-0 win over Seton LaSalle at James Weir Stadium.
After a corner-kick chance was cleared out of the box by a Rebels defender, Guess sent a rocket from 27 yards out into the left corner of the net past goalkeeper Gina Mastele.
It was Guess’ first career goal.
“She’s been saying all year long, ‘I really want to get a goal, I really need to get a goal,’” BVA coach Tracy Lovett said. “I couldn’t be happier for her. We kept telling her to be patient. She’s such an asset to us on our set pieces, it was only a matter of time. It’s so nice to see her get it tonight.”
