Thomas Jefferson used a late first-half surge to gain separation and claim a 3-0 victory over Class 2A Elizabeth Forward in nonsection play Tuesday night at Warriors Stadium.

The Class 3A Jaguars (9-5-4) turned a scoreless tie into a 2-0 lead within the span of two minutes, seven seconds late in the first half on goals from Justin Finnegan and Jack Sella.

“When you play teams like this, you’re playing with such intensity that you can’t afford to make mistakes, but once somebody gets a goal, it takes your momentum down,” TJ head coach Mike Kulish said. “Kudos to (Elizabeth Forward). They’re a good group of guys, they’re well coached and they’re going to do well in the playoffs.”

Owen Richter added a second-half goal to help TJ win it’s first game since Oct. 1 when it claimed a 4-1 section win over Gateway.
