‘007’ theme at Fido/Feline Gala

The crowd at White Oak Animal Safe Haven’s 17th annual Fido/Feline Gala were “dressed to no-kill” Saturday night.

The theme of the event at Stratigos in North Huntingdon was “007, Casino Royale,” inspired by James Bond films.

In addition to dinner, dancing and socializing, guests got to take fun pictures in the Top Snap photo booth and enjoy casino-style craps, roulette, poker and blackjack. An elaborate layered cake, donated by Lil Sista’s Sweets, bore the “007” logo and was adorned with Tommy guns. Around the room were cardboard cutouts of the various actors who have played James Bond over the years. Popular songs from the Bond films played in the background, thanks to D.J. Dave.

Guests were there to donate to and raise money for W.O.A.S.H., a no-kill animal shelter on Lincoln Way in White Oak that was founded in 2003 by Ina Jean Marton, the mayor of White Oak.

Marton said the shelter also uses the annual event as a show of appreciation to volunteers.

“On behalf of our White Oak Animal Safe Haven, our sincere thanks to all the volunteers for their time, talent and dedication to saving the lives of the over 14,500 animals we have served since we opened,” Marton said. “I don’t know how we would do it without all of you.

“Whether it is being inside the shelter giving love to the cats and dogs or being outside the shelter’s walls doing fundraising or legal work, our board members and volunteers do amazing work.”
