Pennsylvania American Water will invest more than $1 million to upgrade aging sewer main lines in Mc-Keesport.
On Wednesday, the company announced the start of construction for approximately one mile of sewer line in its McKeesport service area which includes Duquense, McKeesport, Port Vue, Dravosburg and several other communities.
The investment, about $1.2 million, will address pollution and storm-water issues at the facility by upgrading lines that are more than 70 years old.
Gary Lobaugh, Pennsylvania American Water external affairs manager, said many people don’t understand the need for such infrastructure investments.
“That’s especially the case for sewer and wastewater systems that have a high rate of reliability and where issues go mostly unnoticed unless they become dire,” he said.
