St. Sebastian students share positive messages

Students at St. Sebastian Regional Catholic School in North Belle Vernon took advantage of Friday’s sunny weather to spread some sunshine of their own.

Approximately 115 students from pre-kindergarten through seventh grade swarmed over the sidewalks along Broad Avenue, chalk in hand, to spread messages of love and encouragement to the community.

“We’re starting a program called JAM Club. It’s about spreading kindness in the community,” said Catlyn Ream, a first-grade teacher at the school. “Monday they each got a piece of chalk and were to go out to a business or someone’s home and write a message of kindness. Today we’re going out as a school and writing positive messages all along Broad Avenue.”

The young charges took the assignment seriously, writing their encouraging words in brightly colored block letters and illustrating the words with pictures of flowers, butterflies, hearts and smiling faces.

“It’s nice to go around the neighborhood and help people feel better,” said Lily Tonini, a fourth-grade student at the school.
