Leopards shut out Colonials, 4-0

Cold and soaked, there was no better feeling for Belle Vernon Area boys coach Rob Miele than ringing the victory bell at James Weir Stadium.

While a section championship was officially clinched Tuesday night, the Belle Vernon Area boys soccer team officially wrapped up the section slate Thursday with a 4-0 shutout win over visiting Albert Gallatin at James Weir Stadium.

After a cold-water dump and watching his team ring the bell, Miele got his chance.

“I’ll admit that coming into the season, I wasn’t really sure where we’d end up,” Miele said. “But I know there aren’t many people out there that gave us a chance. You heard, ‘They graduated Markello (Apodiakos), and they graduated Aaron (Brown). They lost Hunter Martin and the back line.’ Or that we didn’t have any soccer players.

“No one picked us to win the section. But I believe in the team we had and the only voices that matter are the ones in our locker room.”
