Forward Twp. officer’s pink badge part of cancer fight

Forward Township patrolman Dan Verno has been waiting for months to wear his new badge, which he took out of its protective plastic wrapping and affixed to his uniform for the first time Friday when he started work.

In his 18 years as a police officer, he’s never had a badge like this one, nor has he seen any other officer with one like it. It’s a custom-made Forward Township police badge done in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness.

“Cancer sucks, and any time we can bring it to people’s attention to fight it, we should,” Verno said.

Verno said he was looking online for new badges for the department earlier this year when he spotted the specialty badges offered by the Blackinton badge company that could be customized by the department.

“I saw that they had one for cancer awareness and I said I want that,” Verno said. “I’ve had it for about four months, just waiting for October to roll around.”
