South Allegheny and South Side Beaver combined for 609 rushing yards Friday, but the Rams ran it a bit better.
The result was a 41-28 win that moved SSB a half game ahead of the Gladiators for third place in the Three Rivers Conference.
“This one is going to sting,” South Allegheny head coach Mike Crown. ”I told the guys after the game it is going to sting for a while, but at midnight we wash the games down the drain.”
South Side Beaver broke a 21-21 halftime tie by driving 61 yards on six plays with Anthony Navarro finding the end zone on a two-yard run. South Allegheny blocked the extra point, leaving the Rams with a 27-21 lead.
South Allegheny responded by driving to South Side Beaver’s 19-yard line before Jet Jones connected with Eric Anderson for his second touchdown of the game and the Gladiators took their first lead at 28-27.
“I think that was a big play,” Crown said. “We needed one more stop and we kept saying if we get it in, it is whoever has the ball on the last play that’s going to win.”
