Penalties hamper Serra’s upset bid against Brentwood

Game by game, it’s hard for Jose Regus to know which Serra Catholic team will show up.
On some nights, the young Eagles come out firing clean and effectively. Other times, they make too many mistakes, take too many penalties and suffer the consequences.
Friday against Brentwood, Serra Catholic showed signs of both. The defense played well and the offense had its moments as Ray Holmes ran for 177 yards. Ultimately, penalties and mistakes were the Eagles’ undoing, falling to Brentwood,14-13, in Three Rivers Conference play.
“It just depends on the Friday night if we’re going to have the penalties and the mistakes or not. It’s an uncontrollable situation,” Regus said. “But we can’t say young mistakes anymore because we’re past the halfway mark of the season. They just have to play.”
