WASHINGTON HEIGHTS IN BELLE VERNON
Anthony E. “Tony” Barr, 87, of Washington Heights in Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019. He was the son of the late Anthony and Virginia Grossi Barr; he was born in Charleroi, on Oct. 10, 1931. He was a member of the Marion Presbyterian Church, The Mon Valley Dartball League for over 55 years, and was a former member of the retiree’s bowling league at Brunswick Lanes. A resident of Belle Vernon for the past 56 years, he had formerly resided in Charleroi. A 1995 retiree, Tony worked in the Tube Shipping office at the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company. Tony served in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War and was an avid Pittsburgh sports teams fan. Along with his wife, Tony has had season tickets for 50 years for the Belle Vernon High School Leopard Football program. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Deneen Hall Barr; 1 daughter, Anita Barr of Lawrence; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Anthony “T.C.” and Carol Barr of Elizabeth Twp.; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Barr Herrington and her husband David, of Elizabeth Twp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Altomari. Friends will be received 7 – 9 p.m., Sunday and 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m., Monday , at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave. Belle Vernon. 724-929-5300; www.FergusonFuneral HomeandCrematory.com. Funeral services will be in the funeral home at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, with Pastor Robert Prinkey officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Marion Presbyterian Church.
