Donora council received an update about the “rails-to-trails” Mon Valley Coal and Steel Heritage Trail project at Thursday’s work session.

Dennis Martinak of Allenport-based D Martinak Planning and Consulting and Thomas Rebar of Compliance Management International met with council to explain where they are with finishing studies and plans for the proposed trail.

The Mon Valley Coal and Steel Heritage Trail project was originally proposed by state Rep. Bud Cook, R-West Pike Run Township.

If the trail is made, it would be a rails-to-trails project running approximately 25 miles from Marianna to Donora by way of  Monongahela and several other Mid-Mon Valley communities such as Bentleyville and Ellsworth and Carroll, Fallowfield and North and West Bethlehem townships.
