The Monessen boys soccer team saw its losing streak reach five games Tuesday with a 9-4 loss to visiting Chartiers-Houston.
With only two games remaining in Section 4-A, the Greyhounds’ playoff hopes have passed them by as they sit 4 1/2 games out of the final spot with only two section games to go.
Chartiers-Houston (7-5-2, 4-3-2) rolled to a 7-1 lead by halftime and was fueled by hat tricks from Jake Cimino and Austin Arnold.
“Our back-side defense didn’t do their job today,” Monessen assistant coach Joey Gigliotti said. “We did play much better in the second half and that’s been something that’s killed us all season long, just playing one half. We needed to put together more than a good 40 minutes. We need 80 minutes.”
