Eileen ‘Kit’ Gavlak – Monongahela

Eileen “Kit” Gavlak, 76, of Monongahela, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, in her home. She was born Aug. 28, 1943, in Monongahela, the daughter of John and Irene Vercamen Salaske. For over 50 years, Kit, along with her husband Skip, owned and operated WR Gavlak General Contractors in Monongahela. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, enjoyed crafts, bingo, crocheting, camping, flower and vegetable gardening. Kit was a seventh-degree former member of the Ginger Hill Grange. She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Alice (Claude) Dove of Monongahela, Robert (fiancée, Elaine Colonna) Curdie of Bethel Park, Kathy (John) Hill of New Eagle, James (Joanne Messina) Gavlak of Monongahela; two grandchildren, Katelynn Ann (Brandon) Werner and Joshua William Gavlak; and sister, Marlene Brevko of Finleyville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert “Skip” Gavlak, who died May 18, 2011; sister, Irene Snodgrass; and six brothers, Paul, John, George, Joe, Albert and Clyde Salaske. Friends will be received from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, the Rev. Jude Urso officiating. Interment will follow in the Monongahela Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fryefuneralhome.com.
