Two new events added to Smithton Community Day

Smithton’s Community Day event has been a neighborhood staple for 17 years, but this year’s yard sale and food event will feature two new twists.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday and wrapping up at 3 p.m., neighbors can experience the best of the Smithton area as they shop, eat and converse with those familiar as well as some new faces.

Councilman and assistant fire chief Mike DeSimone said the event draws attendance from the entire neighborhood because its unique nature attracts Smithton businesses, churches, organizations and homeowners to participate in mass yard sales.

The yard sales will dot the entire borough, but most of the food can be found on First Street.

“Our main focus is basically down on First Street, where a lot of organizations and vendors will set up,” DeSimone said.  The rest of the yard sales and flea markets are all through town.”
