As Halloween creeps around the corner, the Douglas Education Center is dead serious about the upcoming Monessen/Rostraver Rotary Club Zombie 5K.

This marks the third year for the spooky event, where attendees can run or walk and loop through City Park in special effects “zombie” makeup of their choosing.

The event is scheduled for Oct. 19 so attendees are in the Halloween spirit.

Kristen Joseph, Rotary president and event organizer, said around 100 people participated in the race last year, and a lot had makeup done to resemble zombies.

“We originally started doing the makeup booth at the event to try to get the students of Douglas involved, because we feel the special effects program is so great down there and we wanted to include them in the race,” Joseph said.
