Elizabeth park to benefit from $50K grant

A state grant has been approved for improvements at Elizabeth borough’s Riverfront Park.

The $50,000 grant is coming from the Commonwealth Financing Authority, according to state Rep. Mike Puskaric, R-Elizabeth Township, and will be applied to the approximately $162,000 cost of the current phase of work.

The money is going toward what is expected to be the sixth and final phase of an ongoing project to improve the Riverfront Park area and tie it into the downtown.

This phase will complete the walkway overlooking the river along Water Street between Plum and Walnut, according to borough Councilman Chad Rager, who has been seeking the grants for the project.

“It’s for concrete work, new railings, benches and electrical,” Rager said. “All that stuff was built in 1980 out of wood and it’s disintegrating. We’ve got a section put in already and bids will be going out. Early next year we should get it all done.”
