Several Elizabeth Township residents are petitioning their state legislator asking for a forensic audit to be done of the township finances by state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale.
The petition was presented near the end of a town hall meeting hosted by township commissioners Joanne Beckowitz and Donald Similo. Two other commissioners, Kyle Walk and Andrew Kuzma, were also in attendance, though Kuzma did not address the audience of approximately 60 residents.
The petition was presented by Megan McDonough, a resident who is a municipal ordinance project coordinator for southwestern Pennsylvania for Food and Water Watch. McDonough said the purpose of the audit is to get answers about spending in the township, particularly in relation to the sewage treatment project.
During the two-hour public meeting residents brought up a variety of topics, including a $25 million sewerage project, zoning issues especially as related to fracking and a new power plant in the community, and road conditions.
Dave Holliday raised health and environmental concerns with both fracking by Huntley and Huntley and the gas-fired energy plant being built by Invenergy.
