With time dwindling in the second overtime, Elizabeth Forward’s Andrew Smith took a cross and blasted it past Steel Valley’s goalie into the bottom corner of the net.
The goal with just under three minutes left in the game sent the Warriors home a winner on Tuesday, as they took down Steel Valley, 4-3.
“It was a nice ball into the corner and Eli Barowich tracked it down. It’s just that little bit of extra effort that you need in overtime to track it down. We got it across the box and Andrew just put it away,” said Elizabeth Forward coach Doug Finke. “It’s just a big lift for us to come away with the win.”
The win moved Elizabeth Forward to 4-2-1 overall and 4-0-1 in section play, while it dropped Steel Valley to 3-4-0 and 3-2-0 in section play. It was a quality victory against a solid section opponent, but just as much, it was a relief for the Warriors. Elizabeth Forward blew a 2-0 halftime lead and a 3-2 lead with 12 minutes left in regulation. Smith, though, with his strike, turned those blunders into footnotes in the path to a win.
