Run like a robot’s life depends on it.
That’s what FIRST Robotics Team 1708, headquartered at McKeesport Area High School, wants area runners and fitness enthusiasts to do next month during the inaugural Renzie Robot Run 5K.
Scheduled for Oct. 19 at Renziehausen Park in McKeesport, the robot-themed race will support Team 1708, which works with MASD students in grades seven through 12, strives to promote student involvement in science, technology, engineering and math using higher order and critical thinking skills to design, construct and program mechanical robotics for participation in US FIRST robotics competitions and community outreach activities.
Team 1708’s facilitators, Jason Mols and Derek Price, say the organization, which is also known as Amp’D Robotics, defines success by “not only winning at regional competitions, but also by the success of our students in their education. … Because of this, we’ve been extremely lucky in our quest for success.”
