Family council still making a difference for Kane Center

The Kane Family Council commemorated its 10-year anniversary this week during the Kane Foundation Fun Walk 4 Kane.

Formed in spring 2009 by cousins Janet Kulis and the late Joan Burns, the family council has served as “a source of support and encouragement for families and friends of residents at McKeesport Kane.”

The Kane McKeesport Community Living Center, formerly known as Kane Hospital, is a personal care facility operated and maintained by Allegheny County.

Kulis said the council was formed with three purposes — to provide support and encouragement for families, to educate families about Kane McKeesport and its programs and to work with Kane McKeesport administrators to provide programming “that has a positive effect” on the facility’s residents.

“We felt being involved would help families feel less isolated and powerless,” Kulis said.
