Seven dilapidated houses in Elizabeth Township were condemned and ordered demolished by the township commissioners Monday evening.
Among the properties is a house on Blythedale Road that had been raided as a meth lab several years ago. Another is a structure on Industry Road that had been heavily damaged by a fire and was never repaired. A house at 737 Elway St. with a partially collapsed porch and other issues was removed from the demolition list.
“The property owner came in and said he had a plan for remediation, so we’re going to give him time to do that,” said Andrew Kuzma, the president of the commissioners.
During the public hearing that preceded the regular commissioners’ meeting, property owner Jonathan Nowak said he has a handyman working around the house and has hired a contractor to repair the porch.
“I have $40,000 of hard-earned money I paid for the house. I’d like to get the front porch fixed in the next one to three weeks,” Nowak told the commissioners.
