Monessen girls give Phillips first win
By the MV Independent
The Monessen girls soccer team picked up its first win of the season in dramatic fashion Saturday.
With visiting Albert Gallatin leading 1-0, Zalendria Hardison scored the tying goal for the Greyhounds (1-5) on a corner kick off the foot of Aaliyah Rice.
The teams remained scoreless through one 10-minute overtime and the teams appeared to be headed for a draw, but Monessen’s Sydney Caterino connected on a pass to Mya Petruska, who scored the game-winning goal with 30 seconds left in the second overtime.
The Greyhounds are back in action at 7 p.m. tonight on the road at McGuffey in a Section 2-A contest.
