Friday’s head-to-head matchup of 3-0 teams in New Castle didn’t produce the exciting result fans were hoping for.

After more than 45 minutes of waiting out a lightning delay, Laurel and California agreed to consider the game complete at halftime, leading to a 15-0 victory for the  Spartans.

Laurel opened the scoring on its first possession. Facing fourth-and-four from the 32-yard line, the Spartans kept the drive alive with a fake punt. Quarterback Will Shaffer hit Logan Ayres with a 22-yard pass and Luke McCoy capped the six-play drive with a seven-yard touchdown run to make it 6-0.

A low snap on the point after attempt landed in the hands of kicker Jamie McVicker, who ran it in for the two-point conversion.
