Liberty borough council learned Wednesday that a stream embankment on Glenn Avenue, which empties into the Youghiogheny River, is going to need restored.
Borough Engineer Don Glenn said during the workshop meeting that a portion of the embankment near the Port Vue pump station is washing away and crumbling. He cautioned council members, saying they “better keep your eye on it because it is approaching the roadside.”
Glenn Avenue, which serves as a border for Port Vue and Liberty borough, connects Liberty Way to River Ridge Road and the 15th Street Bridge and is known to be a common place for flash flooding to occur.
Residents of the road appeared at several council meetings last year to complain that their properties were repeatedly being flooded and that the road becomes awash with debris when a heavy rain comes to the borough.
Councilmen Mike Matlos and Mike Zrenchack said they have both noticed the issue with the embankment.
“There is no hillside or embankment left,” Matlos said. “It’s just all eroded.”
