A student-athlete in the Mc-Keesport Area School District was shot early Tuesday morning.

McKeesport police Chief Adam Alfer confirmed that the shooting happened at 12:35 a.m. in the 2900 block of Freeland Street while Carlitos Napper was celebrating his 18th birthday.

“He heard shots fired and as a result suffered one gunshot wound,” Alfer said.

Napper was driving and had a friend in the car. Alfer said the victim’s friend, who has not been identified, got into the driver’s seat and “quickly” drove to UPMC McKeesport, where Napper was treated and released.
