McDonald Kemp breaks barriers as judge

The Washington County Court of Common Pleas welcomed its first African-American female judge when Traci McDonald Kemp was sworn in last week.
She took her seat and began working a full judicial calendar Tuesday.
The daughter of businessman and community leader, James R. “Cookie” McDonald, the judge was born and raised in Washington County. McDonald Kemp graduated summa cum laude from Clarion University and earned a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh after a brief career as a college admissions counselor.
McDonald Kemp was elected as a magisterial district judge in 2015 in Cecil Township.
