Susan E. Behrendt – Charleroi

By obits

Susan E. Behrendt, 69, passed away peacefully at Mon Valley Hospital on Aug. 31, 2019, surrounded by family and friends. Susie was born Sept. 11, 1949, to the late Doris Todd Behrendt and Francis Behrendt. A life-long resident of Charleroi, Susie attended Sts. Cyril and Methodius grade school and graduated from Charleroi High School in 1967. Susie then attended California State Teachers College, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in 1970 and her master’s degree in 1973. She taught in the Charleroi Area School District for the entirety of her 43-year career. Susie, accompanied by her sister, Sandy, were often found behind the counter at school dances and in the stands at football games. Susie loved her profession and deeply cared for her fellow teachers and students. Since her childhood, Susie loved the water and spent her summers poolside. Survivors include her sister, Sallie Dornan and husband Robert of Fredericksburg, Va., and their daughter, Sarah Dornan and her daughters, Grace and Sophie Morgan. Her cousin, Mary Oler and her partner, David Granato, of Charleroi, spent many of their days by Susie’s side. In addition, Susie was blessed with a large extended family of dear friends, former coworkers, former students and a godson, Freddie Roberts. Susie loved her family with all her heart. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her grandparents, Sue and Frank Todd and Ena and William Behrendt; as well as her best friend and beloved older sister, Sandra Behrendt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Washington Area Humane Society, 1527 Route 136, Eighty Four, PA 15330, honoring Susie’s love of animals: Penelope, the raccoon, Trudy and last but not least, Luke. The family would like to thank Father Jerry Mikonis, retired pastor of Mary, Mother of the Church, Dr. Rajesh Shah, Dr. Ashok Jain, the nurses and staff who cared for her at Mon Valley Hospital, Mon Valley Care Center and her caregivers who lovingly cared for her in her home. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Mary, Mother of the Church, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi. Guests are asked to please meet at the church. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION, Charleroi, Joseph A. Lopez, funeral director.
