Romeo J. ‘Butch’ Bucci – Monessen

Romeo J. “Butch” Bucci, 95, of Monessen, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, at his home. He was born on Aug. 17, 1924, in Monessen, son of the late Panfilo and Julia Defuria Bucci. After graduating Monessen High School, he served in the U.S. Army, 23rd Infantry American Division, Pacific Theater, during World War II. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for his heroic service in a combat zone. After returning home, he worked at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel for 40 years, prior to retiring in 1986. Butch was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church of Monessen. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching golf, the Steelers and especially the Pirates. Surviving are his daughter, Catherine Bucci, who lovingly cared for him; three sons, David Bucci of Denton, Texas, Gregory and wife Toni Bucci of Monessen, and Ronald and wife Melissa Bucci of Ligonier; grandchildren, Gabriella and Joseph Bucci; a sister, Stella Adamchik of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dolores Pepera Bucci; and siblings, Orlando (Father Michael J.) Bucci, Esther Monroe, Guido Bucci, Michael Bucci, Flora Gallo, Violet Colletti, Helen Keffel and Armand Bucci. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Epiphany of Our Lord Church of Monessen with Father Michael J. Crookston officiating. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery, Monessen. The children of Romeo would like to thank OSPTA Hospice for the wonderful care given to their beloved father.
