Police Chief William Sombo is in his sixth month of rebuilding community trust in the Elizabeth borough police department.
“I’m trying to restructure the police department, correcting day-to-day operations, working on finalizing a recognized standard operating procedure through the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association,” Sombo said.
Sombo worked part-time for the department, starting in 2015, with more than 30 years’ experience as a police officer. At last week’s council meeting, Mayor Barry Boucher praised the work Sombo has been doing.
“There’s been much progress made in the police department. There’s a lot of transparency. Bill’s doing a terrific job,” Boucher said. “There’s a lot of experience on the department and they’re out and about on the streets. It’s night and day from what it was a year ago.”
