Brentwood’s ground attack took over Friday night as the Spartans posted a 19-7 win over South Allegheny in their Three Rivers Conference opener

Quarterback John Milcic ran for 55 rushing yards and added a first half touchdown. He also threw a first half touchdown to freshman Amire Spencer, but it was the ground assault and a stifling defense that limited Antonio Epps and the Gladiators (0-1, 1-1).

“It looked like they had some injuries, so we thought they would try to grind it out a little bit,” said SA head coach Mike Crown. “Their quarterback is a hell of a runner and has a great arm. So we knew what was going to happen, we just could not get the contain on everything.”

Epps was bottled up in the first half, gaining only 35 yards on 10 carries. He bounced back in the second half to finish with 25 carries and 107 yards with a touchdown.

“Antonio is the workhorse for us,” said Crown. “There were some things I thought we performed well and some things did not go our way.”
