Several people will be honored during the Mon Valley NAACP Human Rights Banquet next week.

The annual event, which is the organization’s largest fundraiser, will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 7 at the St. Spyridon Hellenic Center in Monessen.

This year’s theme is “Our Voices, Our Engagement, Our Votes Matter.”

The NAACP’s mission is to ensure political, educational, social and economic equality to all citizens. The Mon Valley branch of the NAACP was chartered in 1929 based on the same principles.

David T. Hunter became the 13th president of the branch this year.
