Philomena ‘Minnie’ Sala – Donora

Philomena “Minnie” Sala, 89, of Donora, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, at Hallsworth House, Monessen. She was born in Girard, Ohio, on July 21, 1930, a daughter of the late Pete and Anna Minniti. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Donora and a 1948 graduate of Monessen High School. A former cook for the St. Philip Neri Catholic School, Minnie worked as a caretaker for various group homes and nursing homes in the area. She enjoyed cooking and was an excellent baker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dante Sala, on March 11, 1998; and four brothers, Joe, Pete, Dimitri and John Minniti. She is survived by three children, Chris (John) Porco of Collegeville, Pa., Dan (Gerry) Sala of Lansdale, Pa., and Dave Sala of Donora; grandchildren, Lauren, Nicholas, Daniel and Anna; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Addison, Isabella, Nicholas and Dante; one brother, Richard (Renee) Minniti of Monessen; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township, Donora, 724-379-6900, where family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
