It’s standard for athletic clubs and organizations to place emphasis on fundraising efforts, albeit for equipment, travel costs or new uniforms. But what about toilet paper?
While it might sound unusual, the young athletes at Impact Athletics Home of HotCheer All Stars collected over 1,500 donated rolls of toilet paper in an effort to emphasize community service this month.
Heather Shaffer, class director and coordinator for the athletic committee at Impact Athletics, said the growing effort toward community involvement is integral to the mission of the competitive cheerleading and tumbling gym in Elizabeth Township. While she said uplifting the community through giving back is an important lesson they have always wanted to teach their athletes since the gym’s formation in 2000, she said efforts have been amplified with the development of a student-athlete committee this past May.
“The committee has 15 girls on it, and they applied for the positions and were chosen,” Shaffer said. “Their main goal is to not only service the community, but also be a voice for their teammates.”
